Highways and Byways Origami Tessellation

I've been sorely lax in uploading new folds, but I'm slowly trying to catch up on that. This tessellation is one that I don't really recall. According to Google, I uploaded the photos on November 15, 2025. So, probably created a day or 2 earlier.  I don't do a lot of fully twist based original origami tessellations , but in this case, I did. It's always nice to mix things up once in a while.  It appears to be an open back hexagon with open back triangles twisting off of it. From there, I'm not exactly sure what I did.  It looks like I might've done some small triangle twists a little ways off from the larger ones on the reverse side.  What I do remember, is that it was conceived from the back side - the picture below. But upon seeing the completed tessellation, I decided what had originally be the back should instead be the front.  It's a pretty simple tessellation compared to my usual ideas, but interesting nonetheless.  If I took a picture of my c...

Jacob's Ladder Origami Tessellation

In this origami tessellation I was looking to use a different shape than usual. I don't recall if I ever used this particular shape before, but I think I have seen it used by others, but not in this exact configuration.  The structure is very simple. It only consists of two shapes. The one seen on the front and long parallelograms on the back.  The main shape is a rectangle with clipped corners, creating six edges all together. The long edges cross two pleats, while the short edges bisect one.  The parallelograms are two pleats on their long sides. and connected by cross cuts.  It was a fairly easy to fold tessellation . The larger shapes that it utilizes saw to that.  My crease pattern is included below.  I did this one a back in mid November, but it's posted under: December 2025 origami tessellations ..

Triangle Traffic Jams Origami Tessellation

This is a pretty basic original tessellation as far as the structure goes. However, it's somewhat difficult to actually fold it.  Everything is tucked very close together and on top of each other.  The idea for it was collapsing some triangles and then repeating.  On the opposite side are many small hex twists nestling not so very neatly.  If you look at the crease pattern you can see that it's mostly a standard flower collapse, but I've added the triangles into it to confuse things.  I actually folded this back in November, but have only just gotten around to posting it.  Filed under: December 2025 Origami Tessellations

Starlight Express Origami Tessellation

This is one of those simple origami tessellations that backlights really well.  It almost looks three dimensional, but it is actually a flat fold.  I was looking through my photos searching for the diagram I used to create this, but I wasn't able to find it.  I don't remember it 100%, but from looking at it, I believe it's open back hexagons with small natural trapezoids tucked into them. That's a starting point I tend to favor.  From there, it seems to be triangle twists connected to the trapezoids.  It will have to be unfolded so that I can upload a proper crease pattern. I'm curious to remember just how I did it.  That will come soon.  The reverse side is very plain. This further reinforces the theory that it is a layered type design that is constructed using the pattern mentioned before. When you fold open back hexagons in that way, you essentially just wind up with multiple layers of very little consequence on their own. The trick is, what ...

Parquet Origami Flagstone Tessellation

This is a pretty nifty little flagstone tessellation that I recently thought up and folded.  Basically, it's a series of long parallelograms connected in a recurring wave formation.  The same pattern can be done with rhombuses. And has been done, by others and myself. But it has a different, cooler look when you use the longer shapes.  It's an intricate looking design that uses a fairly simple pattern.  On the back side, it's all triangle twists.  Most flagstone tessellations don't back light very well, but this one does.  It's a moderately difficult tessellation . If only because it requires so many creases.  I have a crease pattern. Just need to add it.  Although, it's not at all difficult to discern how to fold it.
