Starlight Express Origami Tessellation

Starlight Express Tessellation

This is one of those simple origami tessellations that backlights really well.

It almost looks three dimensional, but it is actually a flat fold.

I was looking through my photos searching for the diagram I used to create this, but I wasn't able to find it.

I don't remember it 100%, but from looking at it, I believe it's open back hexagons with small natural trapezoids tucked into them. That's a starting point I tend to favor.

From there, it seems to be triangle twists connected to the trapezoids.

It will have to be unfolded so that I can upload a proper crease pattern. I'm curious to remember just how I did it.

That will come soon.

The reverse side is very plain. This further reinforces the theory that it is a layered type design that is constructed using the pattern mentioned before. When you fold open back hexagons in that way, you essentially just wind up with multiple layers of very little consequence on their own. The trick is, what you do with those layers.

This is an intermediate level origami tessellation

I used 28 lb white printer paper and had no trouble executing it to completion.
