Blizzard Conditions Origami Tessellation

This is one of those tessellations that was conceived of one way and then when I had finished folding it, I decided that the I liked the back side more. 

Even with a lot of planning and visualizing, you can't always picture exactly how the finished design will look; particularly when it's back lit. 

So, sometimes what you thought you wanted as the front side turns out to be less impressive than what you had imagined for the back side.

Although, I do have to say, I am somewhat partial to the rhombus triads that feature in the second photo. While the center point was my starting inspiration, those sets of rhombuses also played a big part in how I conceived of and create this tessellation. 

In the crease pattern which follows, the blue lines indicate fold in the opposite direction. 

Essentially, the design is trapezoids around small offset hexagons which are connected to each other by the aforementioned rhombus triads.

This tessellation combines twist elements and tucks, but oddly for me, no flagstone folds. It's a little bit difficult, but on the lower end of difficult.

Messing around with rhombuses yielded this interesting pattern. It utilizes reverse rabbit ear folds to create triangular points which connect the running rows of rhombus twists. The triangles form in the spaces between the rhombuses. Then there are mirror triangles to facilitate the the next row.  It kinda looks and folds like a square grid tessellation even though it's done using a triangle grid.  It's a fairly easy fold.  I do have a crease pattern. Infinite Triangles Origami Tessellation

This is just a flash idea I had. There was no planning involved. No inspiration. I just started folding and followed the lure of the creases in the paper.  Upon seeing the finished result, It kind of reminds me of Robin Scholz's Triphilia tessellation, but the construction is definitely different and I was not thinking of that as I was crafting it. The similarity is that you can arrange the layering of the triangles into different patterns of your choice.  I went looking and discovered  I had folded this a few years ago and called it Triangle Temptations . I didn't realize this until after I'd completed this model.  Apparently, according to my original post, I'd seen someone else fold it on flickr and recreated it.  This happens sometimes. Hex Grid Tessellation

Here's a new origami tessellation. It's probably been done before, but it was new to me. A field of small hexagons on a standard 32 division triangle grid. Each hexagon is the smallest available in the grid. Start at the center and work four pleats outward. The veins between the hexes are then creased in half, undfolded and squashed. If you have a larger size paper you could go further and fold in the edges of the hexagons. Either in a triangle pattern or using the classic tato technique. You'll need very neat and precise squash folds if you want to do that.  Pictured here both backlit and regular.
