Birds of a Feather
This is a tuck based origami tessellation. This style of tessellation utilizes the technique of pushing the points and edges of various shapes into the edges of adjacent shapes. It's a method I'm particularly fond of because of its incredible versatility.
Patterns are very straight forward. Designing them is as simple as just abutting the edges your choice of polygons. The geometry of the triangle grid offers almost unlimited possibilities.
These kinds of tessellations can be labor intensive because of how many shapes can be fit into even relatively small girds. The tucks and folds tend to be small and fiddly, but the finished models usually boast wonderfully elaborate combinations.
They are also pretty easy to reverse engineer. Everything is right out there in the open. There are no hidden fold or sneaky tricks. What you see, is what you get.
This tessellation features a full array of polygons. Rhombuses, hexagons, triangles, trapezoids. It makes uses of them all.
