American Politics Origami Tessellation
This is an extreme tessellation that I recently dreamed up. It was exceptionally difficult to fold, but somehow I did manage to finish it. Not without a lot of grumbling and frustrated proclamations that it was impossible. But eventually, with enough stubbornness, it turned out to be possible after all.
I'm not sure if it was so hard because of the concept, the softness of the paper or a combination of the two.
At certain times of year, my normally sturdy paper seems to turn to mush. I blame dew points.
However, the architecture is kind of crazy. Many, many shapes all interlocking and tucked closely into one another with very little relief.
So, who knows. Not me.
The design features rhombus and triangles all connected in a series of multiple maddening arrays. If you would like to attempt to fold it, be prepared to spend a lot of time with it.
Also, be open to letting the paper decide which direction (valley or mountain) some of the folds will go. When you're working with tessellations like this one, it's best just to acquiesce to the will of the paper, just so you can get everything in place.
You can then go back later on and reorient things to your liking.
I still need to take a pic of the crease pattern. Will update when I have that.
